Member name? Ray Masterson
Why stood out to you about this member? Ray has only been with us for a few months although it feels like much longer. He is always a light to our 5am sessions! He knows everyone and will remember your name after just one conversation with him. Ray wanted to make a change in his life and his dedication shows every day. He takes often takes two sessions a day and hit his 100th session in record time. We have loved getting to know him as well as seeing his growth!
Where did your SPENGA journey begin? I had my six months checkup this year and was already on blood pressure medication. My doctor said that unless I made a change I would most likely be on medication for diabetes by the end of the year. I needed to exercise to improve my blood sugar levels. I have a nine-year-old daughter, so I realized I had to do something drastic if I wanted to be around for her for many years to come. On August 16, 2021, I decided to give SPENGA a try.
What do you love about SPENGA? The instructors are fantastic and very motivating. The staff and members that attend SPENGA are warm and friendly. I enjoy the workout because the exercises are challenging but not impossible. I really like the fact that I don’t have to think about planning what to do. I just show up and do what I am told.
Which area of SPENGA have you seen your most growth? My endurance. I remember my first session I had trouble breathing and after the work out my heartrate was above 100 beats per minute for most of the day. Now my heartrate stabilizes much quicker after a workout and I feel much healthier than I did before.
What time of day do you work out? Lately it has been mornings. I try to get an evening workout in a couple of times a week.
Tell us a little more about: Hobbies, etc.? I like playing chess and spending time with my daughter. I also like to eat. So, if that’s a hobby, I do that.
Favorite spot around Town? Bottega Michelangelo has good Italian food and Peter Piper Pizza, and Bookman’s because my daughter loves going there.
